An ECE Career Is a Professional Career

No matter where you work, most ECE jobs will require that you are certified as an early childhood educator through a good program. Although you will be working with children under the age of eight, ECE centers pride themselves on providing a quality educational experience for the children they care for that is appropriate for their developmental stage.

There are ECE Jobs Available In Many Settings

Your ECE degree qualifies you to work as a nanny, a preschool teacher, or a childcare provider. You may be eligible to work as a preschool teacher in a public school. If you want to work in administration, your degree will allow you to pursue a role as a Director or Assistant Director of a childcare center. You may work in a Head Start Program within a school district or a private developmental preschool program. There are jobs available in hospitals, private homes, corporate daycare settings, and early intervention non-profit special education centers. If you are entrepreneurial, your ECE degree will give you the training you need to operate a licensed in-home childcare center of your own.

Graduating from an ECE program allows you to work on cruise ships and resorts running childcare programs if adventure is what you’re looking for. You can also get a job as a play specialist or in a Type A Center, Type B Center, National Accredited Center, or Step Up To Quality Center.

Early Childhood Educators Are In High Demand

The early childhood education and care industry provides a lot of educational and care services for young children. Early childhood educators have the incredible opportunity to influence a child’s learning and development during a very important time in their lives. What they learn early on about education and learning will impact how they see their whole academic career.

The industry’s growth can be attributed to changes in educator-to-child ratios, which require more educators per child. As a result of an increase in the number of children attending child-care services, early childhood education is among the most in-demand professions.

The increased demand is also driven by:

  • Dual income families and single parents who must work to provide for their families.
  • An increase in the number of early childhood education services.
  • Federal and state funding for early education programs.
  • More significant support and facilities for children with additional needs.
  • A demand for higher quality early childhood education.
  • Increase in required educator to child ratios.
