According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, registered nurses will see a growth of 19 percent into the year 2022. It will increase faster than any other occupation. Hospitals are discharging patients faster than ever due to insurance changes. This means that places like long-term health facilities, rehabilitation centers and nursing homes in many parts of the country including Toledo OH are seeing a rapid growth. There will be a higher demand for qualified nurses in these areas. Overall, nurses will see a rise in demand for many other qualifications too.
1. Geriatric Nurse
There are many places where a geriatric or gerontological nurse will work like assisted living facilities, nursing homes or rehabilitation centers. As people age, geriatric nurses will be in high demand. They must have a comforting and patient bedside manner and the ability to help with rehabilitation procedures.
2. Holistic Nurse
These nurses believe in spiritual and psychological well-being playing a large part in the overall success of patient progress. They don’t rely on purely holistic treatments but treating the body and mind as a whole to increase health benefits. Once thought to be alternative healing, many people are seeing increased benefits to this type of care. After receiving a degree, they will require certification by the American Holistic Nurses Association.
3. Critical Care
When a patient has a life threatening illness or medical problem, a critical care nurse will provide health care. Mostly, these nurses work in major hospitals, but they can work in more specialized areas like cardiac centers or cancer institutes. They can also transport patients to other facilities. In some cases, they can work as flight nurses for emergency medical transport.
4. Dialysis Nurse
When someone’s kidneys are not working correctly, they can’t remove the body’s waste. The patient has to be hooked up to machines to perform this task for them. Dialysis nurses can often work a normal day time schedule since patients are scheduled during the day for dialysis.
5. Nurse Anesthetist
A nurse in this field will help a doctor administer anesthesia to patients. They work with surgeons in emergency rooms, outpatient surgery offices and dentist offices. There are special anesthetist programs that a nurse must attend to become a nurse anesthetist.
6. Forensic Nurse
These nurses will help law enforcement dealing with abuse, sexual assault and homicides. Forensic nurses must understand legal ramifications of certain actions, and how to deal with the victims of assault. In some cases, they collect evidence and might need to testify in court.
7. Hospice Nurses
Terminally ill patients will often go home or to a facility for their final days. They need care during the last days of their life, and hospice nurses provide that care. It’s an emotionally draining field but rewarding to a nurse who knows how to care for these patients.
