How to Get Into Nursing School Without PrerequisitesIf you’re considering a career in the medical field, you may want to think about becoming a nurse, especially if you don’t wish to (or have the financial ability or time to) spend years going to school. Fortunately, certain nursing school programs can be completed within a year, allowing you to pursue your career as soon as possible.

However, one thing that might be of concern to you is whether there are any prerequisites to being accepted to a nursing program. While there are some LPN (licensed practical nurse) programs that require prerequisite classes, this is not the case here at Athena Career Academy. Although you don’t need to complete certain classes before you can enroll in our LPN program, there are a few other prerequisites you’ll need to complete in the form of various tasks.

LPN Program Prerequisites

Keep in mind before you go over our prerequisites for enrolling in our LPN program that these are not difficult to complete. They include the following:

  • You will need to attend an informal meeting with one of our admissions representatives.
  • You will need to attend an individual meeting concerning funding arrangements with a financial aid administrator.
  • You will need to pass the WorkKeys ACT Entrance Test. The test will cost $30 to take. If you’ve already taken the test within the year, you will need to prove that you passed it and that you took the test at an approved testing site. You can obtain WorkKeys testing information as well as study links from our admissions representatives or at the ACT website.
  • You will need to complete a State of Ohio Disclosure Course online.
  • You will need to show proof that you completed high school or successfully passed the GED by providing transcripts for either.
  • You will have to provide a copy of your government ID and signed social security card.
  • You will need to provide proof of AHA (American Heart Association) BLS and Healthcare Provider CPR.
  • You will need to complete a physical that’s signed and dated by either a physician or a qualified medical representative within one year of your start date at nursing school.
  • You will need to provide proof that you’ve passed a drug screen within 90 days of your start date.
  • You will need to provide proof of immunization, which includes providing immunization records for MMR, Hepatitis B, Tetanus, Varicella, and either a two-step PPD within one year of your start date or an initial two-step PPD along with documented proof of annual one-step PPD (or a CRX within one year of your start date). You will also need to provide proof of the current season’s flu shot.
  • You will need to complete a BCI and FBI criminal background check along with fingerprinting within 90 days of your start date.
  • You must sign an enrollment agreement.
  • You must attend the orientation session.

These are the prerequisites for enrolling in our nursing school at Athena Career Academy. While it may seem like a long list of tasks, most of them are required by all reputable nursing school programs–and it’s worth noting that unlike other nursing schools, we do not require you to take any prior nursing classes.
