A Day in the Life of a Nursing Student
Posted On August 28,2015
Most days start out the same. We all have our daily routines that help us pass the time between 6am and midnight. And for a large majority of us, there isn’t much free time to rest and relax in the middle of work, family, friends and life. And, for nursing students, there is no exception. In fact, you can probably take the typical demands of life for most normal people, and multiply that by a thousand to get a clearer picture of what a day in the life of a nursing student would look like.

Starting the Day Off Right
Getting through nursing school is no simple task. It takes determination, organization, hard work, and dedication in order to succeed as a nurse in the medical field. So, starting the day off right helps lay the foundation for the rest of the day. For many people, this would mean eating a healthy breakfast, maybe starting off the morning with some yoga or other exercise, and prepping yourself for a busy day. But, for nursing students like yourself, you’ll probably be exhausted from staying up most of the night to study for another test. So, tossing on a pair of scrubs, slipping on some shoes, and a quick glance in the mirror before heading out the door with a cup of coffee and doughnut may have to do so you can make it to class on time. Sometimes, that’s just the way it goes.
Getting to Class
Depending on your nursing school of choice, you may have a variety of experiences throughout your nursing school journey. But, if you happen to school a smaller, specialized school like Athena Career Academy, you’ll probably be surprised about how different your education is from other larger schools. From day one, your teachers never leave you alone. From learning how to use syringes to understanding proper medical terminology, and the many responsibilities associated with patient care, your teachers are by your side every step of the way. Plus, you can be sure that you’ll receive a full nursing education, complete with proper lectures, the necessary hands-on lab work, and clinical internships; everything is there to provide you with the necessary knowledge needed to become a successful nurse.
Small Class Sizes Are the Best
Being in a small class filled with eager nursing students really does provide the optimal learning environment for an intimate and adaptable learning experience. For the most part, students go through the process together from start to finish. Pretty much everyone you meet on Day: One will follow you through each and every class, lab, and clinical experience over the course of the next one to two years. You truly are all in this together. The smaller teacher-to-student ratio allows you to get adequate instruction and assistance from your teacher without having to vie for attention with tons of other students. The small class sizes are also great because they can provide you with the support you need when life and nursing school seem to collide.
Heading Home
Whether you’re taking day classes and going to work in the evenings, working during the day and taking nursing classes at night, or just focusing solely on your education, you’ll probably find yourself squeezing in extra study time wherever possible. Lord knows that you can take whatever you can get. You’ll probably keep flash cards in your car to study at red lights or while waiting in the parking lot, or keep lab books In your bag to study during breaks at work. Either way, nursing school will control your life for as long as you’re a student.
As exhausting as this may be, it’s totally worth it in the end. Once you’re all finished, you’ll be licensed t work in a field that is always challenging, exciting, fast-paced, and full of unexpected experiences. Being a nurse is one of the greatest careers around, and you’ll experience a sense of pride and self worth from a job well done in a career that really does make a difference.
