Reasons You’ll Love Being A Medical Assistant

The following are just a few of the reasons why you could end up loving your job as a medical assistant.

1. They get to help people

The number one reason to become a medical assistant is that you’ll get to help people. Although medical assistants are tasked with administrative duties as well, they are generally responsible for a variety of clinical tasks.

For instance, they take patient vitals, record height and weight, and update patient medical history prior to their meetings with the doctor. Medical assistants also take and prepare samples, administer vaccines, and more. Being able to help people stay or get healthy is an enormous sense of fulfillment for most medical assistants.

2. They don’t have to worry about job security

As the population continues to grow, there will continue to be a need for medical assistants. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there were 725,000 medical assistant jobs in the U.S. in 2019. The job outlook is excellent as well, with a growth of 19 percent expected over the next decade. With that in mind, you won’t have to worry about job security when you become a medical assistant, which is a benefit few other job positions enjoy.

3. They have a wide range of job options

Medical assistants are needed throughout the healthcare industry. Not only does this help with job security, it also gives you options as to where you can work. For instance, you could work at a hospital, at a family physician’s practice, at a university, at an outpatient care center, at a diagnostic lab, at an insurance carrier, or at a medical research facility, just to name a few. Such diverse options mean that you’re certain to find a place you’ll enjoy working.

4. The road to becoming a medical assistant isn’t as difficult

It can take years upon years for certain medical professionals to receive the education and training required to enter their chosen field. Fortunately, this is not the case when it comes to medical assistants. You can obtain the education you need in less than a year. Not only does this mean that it requires less time, but it also means less money spent towards your education.

5. They have a wide range of career paths to choose from

Because you’ll have a foundation of administrative and clinical knowledge from being a medical assistant, you’ll have countless options if you plan to further your career in the medical field. For instance, you could continue your education and focus on a more specific field, such as pediatrics or orthopedics, or even become an office manager or administrative assistant.
