Here are 7 tips on how to succeed as an MA student:

1. Sticking to a Study Schedule is Essential

While your classes are already scheduled, it’s also a good idea to set a study schedule for yourself outside of class. This ensures that no matter how busy your life gets, you allow yourself ample time to study.

When it comes to studying, it’s important to space out your study time, versus trying to cram it all in at once. If you stick to a schedule, you will give yourself more time to study, complete homework, and practice for tests, which will help you retain the information better.

2. Find a Study Group But do What Works Best for You

Studying and collaborating with fellow students who are in the same position as yourself will provide you an invaluable amount of support, as well as accountability. However, each student is unique and has their own system or way of doing something, so when it comes to study strategies, such as note taking for example, make sure and find a system that works best for you, and then stick to it.

3. Don’t be Afraid to Ask for Help

If you’re struggling to understand a concept or skill, don’t be afraid to reach out and ask for help. The main purpose of school is to learn, so you’re not expected to know everything at this point. Asking for help shows that you’re fully dedicated to the program and care about your personal success. There is plenty of support to be found in school, all you have to do is ask.

4. Be Open to Constructive Feedback

The ability to accept constructive criticism without getting offended is a trait that will not only help you succeed in your medical assistant program, but also on the job itself as you’ll be working closely with physicians and patients who will likely provide you with plenty of feedback-whether it’s wanted or not.

Remember that instructors are there to help you learn and develop your skills, so listen to your instructors and soak in all of the wisdom and guidance they have to offer.

5. Get Plenty of Rest and Take Breaks When Needed

Studying is hard work and can really do a number on your health and sleep schedule. In order to keep your brain sharp and alert, it’s crucial that you get enough sleep, eat properly and take care of yourself. The importance of proper sleep and diet are often overlooked, resulting in fatigue and illness.

It’s only natural that you want to study hard and succeed, but you can’t study all the time, so please do give yourself a break.

6. Be a Team Player

Showing support and being kind and helpful towards your fellow classmates not only demonstrates how well you’ll get along with future co-workers but also shows that you’re a team player, which is a much-desired trait for medical assistants to have.

7. Never Give Up

Some days will be harder than others, and there may even be a time or two where you feel like quitting, but it’s so important to never lose sight of your end goal. Though it seems hard now, this too shall pass, and before you know it, you’ll be finished with school and crushing those career goals.
