What Are the NCLEX Pass Rates for Nursing Students in Ohio?
Posted On September 19,2016
For thousands of hopefuls across the country, the ability to pass the NCLEX exam is the only thing standing in the way of their goal of becoming a licensed nurse. NCLEX exams are created and administered by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc. (NCSBN). Untrained or poorly trained healthcare professionals are a hazard to public health and safety, and as such exams like this protect patients from unsafe nursing practices. These serve as a measure of the competence and skill of those who wish to become a registered nurse (NCLEX-RN) or a practical nurse (NCLEX-PN).
For nearly 3 hours, students taking the exam will answers questions about:
- Physiological Integrity
- Psychosocial Integrity
- Health Promotion and Maintenance
- Safe and Effective Care Environment.
When nurses graduate from their programs, passing the exam demonstrates that they can handle working in a medical facility in an entry level position.
The National Council of State Boards of Nursing has published the statistics for the NCLEX exams. For the first 2 quarters of 2016, 80, 907 out of 94,400 students who took the exam passed. This brings the national pass rate to 85.71%. The Ohio Board of Nursing reported the statewide pass rate as 79.96% with 3,372 passing out of 4,217. Similarly, the practical nurse exam rate is 78.22% in Ohio and 82.89% for the nation. The year before, the pass rate in Ohio was 81.21% for registered nurses and 79.48% for practical nurses. With an nearly 80% pass rate for each exam, Ohio’s pass rate is comparable to the national average and the rest of the country.
